Skip-Bo

Barney is feeling the pressure of Kevin's constant attention.

Not you again?

Just go.

Please...

When you live fairly remotely, up a mountain, visitors can be a bit thin on the ground, like the air, so it was lovely to have a visit from friends from Blighty, Helen and Mark, who holiday up a much higher mountain than ours, three hours' drive away. We shared a lot of lunch, and a lot of laughs!

To ease the loneliness*, we play a lot of Skip-Bo. It's addictive. If you're ever considering being an ex-pat/immigrant in France, you will need to get used to this game.

As you will have noticed, this blog is intended to be about our renovation project in France. Socialising and owl-pestering do sometimes interrupt the work schedule, but, to keep to the subject of the blog, here is a little update on today's works.

Kevin has been installing a wooden framework to support the back guttering, which had proved difficult to fix directly to the existing roof-edge arrangement.

I have today picked up my son-in-law, Ben's, baton with the planing and sanding of the smoke and grease-saturated, woodworm-pocked kitchen table. We are determined to keep it and give it centre stage in the kitchen. I'm going to paint it with some of my Autentico chalk paint- Clear Clouds, I think. But today, I used two different sanding machines, one with the personality of Hannibal Lecter, and the other, Jessica Rabbit, to gain a paintable surface.

Hannibal- hungry to chew into the surface if not handled very carefully.

Jessica- offers gently pulsing sanding to produce smooth, burnished finish.
From this...
... to this!

The bottoms of the kitchen table legs have rotted away, somewhat, mainly due to woodworm, so we're going to add on an extra bit, otherwise, it's slightly uncomfortable to squeeze your legs in under the table, whether on a bench or a chair.

What's that? You want to know how my burn is coming along? Really? Oh, okay then...

Day 5? The swelling and outer ring of redness have abated.

More on actual works  very soon!

* We're not really lonely. We are surrounded by wonderful neighbours and friends!

  1. The 'just go' made me laugh! Are you sure skip-Bo isn't uno? You are funny with your sander personalities.
