Waiting for a phone call...

We love our caravan! But it does appear to come with a series of little cheeky complications to keep us on our camping toes. The caravan battery wasn't charging, it was old, so we drove to a lovely camping store called Dromaland in Brive to purchase a new one. The battery charger didn't charge, so we ordered a new one from Dromaland. We await a phone call. They said four days, but it's now been ten. Kevin phoned today in his best Franglais and managed to ascertain that it would be in tomorrow. Well, we shall see.
There was a ghostly stain appearing in the middle of the kitchen carpet. It smelled of rotting wood. Kevin, who continues to be my all time hero, got under the caravan and found that there had been a long term little leak from the back of the taps. He fixed it. All we have to do now is wait for it to dry out and then clean the carpet with a clever chemical.
Yesterday, the pressure valve on the water heater exploded. It couldn't take the pressure. It has actually snapped off, so we will have to order one tomorrow at Dromaland. We have no hot water now, but the only thing we used it for was to do the washing up. Well, we can boil a kettle for that. The cold water suffices for showers. for the moment, we literally have 'put a cork in it'. The hot water pipe, that is.
We bought one of those heavy duty strimmer things that comes with a harness and ear-shields, because, believe me, there is a LOT to cut back. It worked for about 15 minutes, then would never start again, despite technical intervention from the hero. It's gone back to M. Bricolage, and we await a phone call...
We are now Orange customers. We will have internet, mobile phone, landline and TV... one day. The phone line to our property has been cut and left hanging in a coil at the end of the road. Orange needed a French phone number for the engineers to call to ascertain the situation and arrange a convenient time to visit. Our friends Steve and Sue were happy to give their number, but no-one has phoned. They said it would be in four or five days, but now it's been ten. Sound familiar? We have picked up our 'box' and SIM from the Orange shop in Tulle, but we are a long way from them seeing any action. You're probably thinking, well, why don't they call Orange to see what's happening. Yes, I tried that and had to give up after 20 minutes of one repeated cheery song (which eventually lost its cheer) while on hold. So, we continue to await a phone call. Sue and Steve are, anyway.
