Cherie FM
This is my Roberts radio, imprisoned in a Co-op carrier bag to protect it from dust and dirt on the building site. I have come to learn that a radio is an absolutely essential piece of equipment on the building site. Apparently.
Its presence means that there are ample opportunities to hold shouted conversations, and to sing along in marvellous harmony* to 'popular' tunes. I've started to dance. Yes! Truly! On the building site. What's happening to me?
I don't know if you've listened to French popular radio. Most of the music's English/American. There will be a soupcon of French songs throughout the day, all very 'catchy', but, mostly, we're listening to old favourites in English. Let me list for you the songs that are played more than four times EVERY DAY:
Titanium- Madilyn Bailey (not Sia)
Jimmy- Cats On Trees
Budapest- George Ezra
Firestone- Kygo
Relax, Take it Easy- Mika
Impossible- James Arthur
Radioactive- Madilyn Bailey (not Imagine Dragons)
Take Me to Church- Hozier
Thinking Out Loud- Ed Sheeran
Someone Like You- Adele
Rabbit Heart- Florence and the Machine
Fire Meet Gasoline- Sia
Chandelier- Sia
Big Girls Don't Cry- Sia
Just Give Me a Reason- Pink
Cheerleader- OMI
Purple Rain- Prince
Go check their playlist- it's true.
No Killers or Mumford and Sons. Nope. There is also another much played female power ballad with an indecipherable chorus, but an extremely catchy tune. It's played more than five times every day. I rang my son to sing it to him for identification purposes. (Dan dah dun dah-aha, dun dun dun dah-aha) He didn't recognise it, but I know it's huge- someone like Adele, or Florence, or Sia. Kevin tried to note down some of the words on the new plasterboard wall when it came on this morning, but all he had are the words 'last time' in the chorus... but Kevin has since said that it may not even have been 'that' song, because, 'they all sound the same'*.
*It's rude to use the term 'tone deaf' when someone's making an effort and is evidently happy, so I won't.
