Only for Serious Trench-Spotters

The first of three trenches is done. Epandages is the French word for these 'appendages' to the fosse septique. We have to have 60 metres of them, so that's three 20m trenches. To be really sure that there's enough drainage in our rocky ground, we've made three 24m trenches. There has to be a 1% drop from start to finish on each length. Planning the whole operation requires a lot of maths.

Ian puts orange dots every 1m to help with the maths.

The special gravel arrives from Chausson. I'm really impressed that they managed to deliver it to us in our mountain eyrie.

The big ruler is useful when doing maths. Yes, the horse is still here; she's here every day.

 All three trenches done!

The 'gravel' has to be a certain type and size. It cost a HUGE amount of money. But we had no other option.

 Yep, sand was needed too.

Putting in a sand base for the tank.

 In she goes!

 And now for the gravel...

 And the slotty pipes.

 Ian, about my lawn...

Geotextile goes on top of the pipe which is on top of the gravel.
